If you love to tear up the trails over water and mud, you should prioritize finding a waterproof winch with a high IP rating (Ingress Protection). Each rating helps determine how much dust, liquid, and water a winch can take. In an ideal world, your rating is at least a 7, which can handle being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at a time. But if you love exploring the water, you should shoot for an 8 rating that ensures your winch can continuously operate in the water for up to three meters deep.
